Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Specialist
Abbott Northwestern Hospital
Justine Preedit, PharmD, BCOP is a Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Specialist at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She worked as a retail pharmacist for five years in various retail, hospital discharge, and Specialty pharmacy settings before going back for a non-traditional PGY1 residency at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She then completed a PGY2 oncology residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
Justine’s clinical responsibilities at her site involve managing both inpatient and outpatient malignant heme services, including rounding, patient review and education, and designing Beacon treatment plans; in addition, she cross-covers both medical oncology and breast clinics. Her role also includes creating guidelines, procedures, and educational materials on new medication services, most recently leading the system-wide roll-out of bispecific antibody therapy for heme malignancies.
Justine’s current areas of research are in pharmacist-directed assessment of drug-cannabis interactions, including creating an open, destigmatized environment where patients feel comfortable to disclose concurrent cannabis use with chemoimmunotherapy; she recently received a $20,000 research grant from the Allina Foundation to conduct this research. She is also overseeing a PGY2 oncology longitudinal resident project on optimizing high-dose methotrexate administration to improve safety and decrease hospital stay. Teaching residents and students are her favorite part of the job, and she currently serves as PGY2 Oncology Residency Program Coordinator, as well as primary preceptor for introductory and advanced malignant heme rotations for PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents.
Justine is a passionate advocate for patients, employees, and safety, and her personal mission is to eliminate barriers to safe and effective cancer care related to the dysfunctions and inequities of the current health system.
